“AT RED BULL, RUSSELL CAN BE BETTER THAN HULKENBERG”

George Russell seemed to have a contract for 2021 with Williams, but in Formula 1 nothing like it seems. Sergio Perez lost his spot at Racing Point and is now on the hunt for a spot at Williams. Or has it all gone through?
Earlier this year, Nicholas Latifi and George Russell were confirmed as Williams’ drivers for 2021, but with the new owners, the coronavirus and the chaotic drivers’ market, a lot has changed. Perez would prey on a spot near Williams, putting pressure on Russell’s spot.
Albon has been under pressure at Red Bull Racing for a year and a half. As a replacement for Pierre Gasly, the Thai can’t live up to the pressure either, so Red Bull is looking for a new driver. According to the former Formula 1 driver Christijan Albers, Russell is best choice than Hulkenberg.
”Throughout his career he has shown that Nico is a talent, but not a supertalent. He was also beaten by Daniel Ricciardo at Renault. I can understand Max wanting him as a teammate. Max is not afraid of other drivers, but if you know that Ricciardo has beaten him, it gives you confidence”, says Albers, who would like to see another driver join him.
Albers believes that Russel will be a good team mate for Max ”Purely at speed, however, I would choose George Russell. He is also a young man you can rely on, because he is still very young, just like Max. If Max is constantly faster, then I think Russell can handle that better than Hulkenberg”, concludes Albers.
Russell is not yet worried, however, and feels Toto Wolff’s support. ”He said to me that they support me and that I will definitely be on the grid 100% next year, so I’m not worried. Everything will be fine and I expect full clarity from Williams by the end of the week,” says Russell according to Racefans.net.
However, Wolff doesn’t seem entirely reassured, as he said earlier that George would also be fine as a reserve driver for Mercedes. This would make him the second driver of Mercedes to be on the sidelines for a year. Esteban Ocon, who was also guaranteed a place in F1 by Wolff, has already done the same.
