F3 vice-champion Theo Pourchaire will make his F2 debut with HWA Racelab at next month’s Bahrain finale.
Formula 3 vice-champion Theo Pourchaire will make his Formula 2 debut with HWA Racelab at next month’s Bahrain finale.
The 17-year-old will contest the final two rounds of the season for HWA alongside team regular Artem Markelov in Bahrain.
Having won back-to-back titles in French and German F4, Pourchaire made the step up to F3 for 2020 and starred in his rookie campaign, claiming two victories for ART Grand Prix and finishing second in the standings, just three points behind champion Oscar Piastri.
The French driver is linked to the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team through being a member of Sauber’s young driver programme.
HWA Racelab confirmed on Wednesday that Pourchaire will drive alongside Markelov for the final four races of the F2 season in the seat which was occupied by previous F3 Jake Hughes in Sochi, following Giuliano Alesi’s departure after Mugello.
“I am really happy to participate in the final two rounds of FIA Formula 2 in Bahrain,” Pourchaire said.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to HWA Racelab for giving me this opportunity. I can hardly wait to work with the team and get to know a new car.”
HWA Racelab team principal Thomas Strick added: “We are pleased to allow such a highly-talented young driver to take his first steps in Formula 2.
“Theo’s talent is undisputed. The success he has enjoyed in his burgeoning career speaks for itself. We are excited about his debut in Bahrain.
“In recent years, he has proved several times that he can quickly find his feet in a new series.”
