HAMILTON : “THE WORLD DOESN’T NEED A NEW CIRCUIT”

Six-time F1 world champion Hamilton has been vocal about the importance of environmentalism in recent years.
A new circuit has to be built and the designated location is encountering a lot of resistance, also from Lewis Hamilton.
This week it was announced that Formula 1 has reached an agreement with organisers in Brazil for a new Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro.
Formula 1 has been at loggerheads with the organisers of the race at Interlagos in São Paolo for some time and therefore wants to move to Rio.
The circuit to be built for this purpose is planned on a wooded piece of land in an otherwise highly urbanised area.
Brazilians and environmental organisations have launched several online petitions against the construction of this track. Hamilton seems to support this.
“I have heard that it may be a sustainable race, but the most sustainable thing would be not to cut down trees for it. Certainly not at a time when we are fighting a pandemic. I just do not think it is a smart move. I am not familiar with the details, but personally I just do not support it.”
The world champion began his answer that he had hoped not to have to answer this question. He says of Brazilians and the many fans he has there, but
“the world doesn’t need a new circuit. There are plenty of great tracks,” said the Mercedes driver at the press conference in Germany to RaceFans.net and others.
