EIFEL GP POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST WITHIN THE MERCEDES TEAM

Mercedes has confirmed one of its team members has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix weekend.

Eifel Gp – Mercedes has offered no further information, but it is believed that the positive results were not returned by drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

F1 has reported a higher number of coronavirus cases over the last handful of testing rounds, with last week’s confirmed total reading 10 ancillary cases.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mercedes said: “We can confirm that a team member has tested positive.

“This has been handled and is being handled in line with FIA protocols, working closely with the FIA.”

Sergio Perez is so far the only confirmed high-profile F1 team member that has contracted coronavirus, which forced him to set out both races at Silverstone earlier this year.

Back in March at Melbourne, a McLaren team member tested positive which resulted in the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix.

F1 digital presenter Will Buxton was forced to miss the Russian Grand Prix after he produced a positive COVID-19 test result two weeks ago.
