HONDA READY TO HELP RED BULL AFTER 2021

Honda said in a statement it wanted to focus its research and development resources on energy technologies including for fuel cells and battery electric vehicles.

Masashi Yamamoto is ready to discuss with Red Bull the possibility of using Honda’s power plants after 2021, if the team will be engaged in their completion on their own or with a new partner.

The Japanese corporation intends to leave Formula 1 in a little over a year, however, according to the managing director of Honda F1, they are ready to negotiate the continuation of cooperation after that, but in a different form.

The point is that the team can obtain from Honda the intellectual property rights related to hybrid power plants, and then it will be able to work with them in the future, although the implementation of such a scenario will require very serious investments from Red Bull, and also, probably , attracting any new technical partner.

According to the edition of The Race, Honda has not yet received such a request, but they will be ready to consider it, because they want to make their departure from F1 as painless as possible for the team.

“Honda is happy to hold negotiations if the team is somehow interested in this, and not only about the power plants, but about other things too,” quotes The Race as saying Yamamoto. – We are pleased to continue our cooperation with AlphaTauri and Red Bull and provide them with any support after 2021.

Working with these teams has given Honda a lot, and in the future we want to thank them in some way for that. If such a request comes from the team, I am ready to talk about it with the leadership in Japan. I personally want to give Red Bull and AlphaTauri maximum support.

Our goal is that Honda’s withdrawal from the championship does not entail negative consequences for Formula 1. This year we need to hold seven more races, and we want to try different solutions with an eye to the next season. And in 2021 we will try to compete for victory in the championship so that our history has a good ending.

Next year, the staff working in our project will not be reduced. We will be more active in the modernization and make every effort to win as many victories as possible. We will continue to attack until the end. “

In theory, Red Bull has sufficient resources, both financial and technical, to implement such a project, and this may be a preferable scenario than re-becoming the client team and renewing cooperation, for example, with Renault. According to Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, all possible scenarios are now being analyzed, after which a choice will be made, most likely before the end of the year.
