NOW HONDA WILL LEAVE COULD FORCE RED BULL BACK TO RENAULT

Honda’s shock announcement it will leave F1 at the end of next season means Red Bull and its sister team AlphaTauri must search for a new engine partner.

The cooperation between Red Bull Racing and Honda will only last three years, four years for AlphaTauri.

With Honda leaving Formula 1 at the end of 2021, both teams will once again have to look for a new engine supplier.

On Autosport.com the possibility of a renewed collaboration between Red Bull and Renault will be discussed. Although the two parties were not exactly on good terms at the end of 2018, the door still seems to be ajar. Cyril Abiteboul indicated last month that there are still opportunities.

“If a really strong partnership can come out of it, we will do it,” he said. “A customer team will get you nothing. A partner may have some value, the value of which is mainly that they can help you achieve a sporting or business goal”.

Therefore, although the options for cooperation still seem to be there, the Renault team boss also remains critical of reunification.

“If there is a chance of strong cooperation, we will do it, but I doubt whether it can be with Red Bull. We’ve tried that before and it didn’t work then either. I doubt whether it is true now,” says Abiteboul, who is still a little reluctant.
