Helmut Marko understands why Honda is going to quit Formula 1.

(Marko Honda’s decision) – Although, the Red Bull Racing advisor regrets that the racing team is losing its Japanese partner, Marko indicates that Red Bull and AlphaTauri are looking for the best alternative.

“We understand Honda’s decision and respect the direction they are taking in taking on that new challenge”, said Marko’s initial response in a conversation with Motorsport.com. He respects the fact that Honda is pursuing a more environmentally friendly goal.

Honda will not call it quits until after 2021, upon the end of that season they will remain active in this sport. Marko still plans to fight for the title together with Honda and get as many victories as possible: “That’s our immediate goal for the remaining season and for 2021.”

The team of Max Verstappen is forced to look for another engine supplier after 2021. Marko assures that they will do everything they can to find a good match: “We will work with both teams to find the best possible solution to find a suitable partner from 2022 onwards.”

In addition, Marko also indicates that Red Bull remains committed to the sport, despite the departure of Honda. Both teams have committed to the sport until 2025, although the new Concorde Agreement includes an annual cancellation option.
