PEREZ CLEARS THE AIR WITH RACING POINT

Sergio Perez has cleared the air with Racing Point after accusing the team of not being straight with him since his departure was announced recently.

With Perez leaving Racing Point at the end of the season, he had claimed that he felt some people inside the team had tended to “hide things”.

The Mexican, who is to be replaced by Sebastian Vettel in 2021, has now confirmed via social media that the matter has been laid to rest.

“I have known this team for seven years and they are like family. I have spoken to the team and they accept my explanation,” wrote Perez.

“There’s no way that after seven years we can finish in bad terms, the air is totally cleared.”

Perez joined the team, then known as Force India, from McLaren in 2014 and has since been a regular inside the top 10 of the drivers’ championship.

In both 2016 and ’17, Perez helped Force India to back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the constructors’ championship.

The 30-year-old also played an instrumental role in securing the future of the team in 2018 as he was part of a group that instigated legal action which resulted in new owners being found.

Perez is now focused on achieving success in his final eight races with the team, starting with this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix.

“And we all move forwards now,” added Perez. “We all want the same thing: to score as many points and be successful in our remaining races together.

“We will push and go for more podiums in these eight final races together.”
