Hamilton’s mood might have been worse had his championship rivals managed to take advantage of his error, but neither team-mate Valtteri Bottas nor Red Bull’s Max Verstappen enjoyed great outings either.
Lewis Hamilton has words of praise for Pierre Gasly. The AlphaTauri driver has had an excellent season so far and took his first victory in Formula 1. Hamilton sees Gasly taking revenge after being replaced by Alexander Albon at Red Bull Racing last year.
“It’s a great win for him. It’s so deserved,” Hamilton wrote on his Instagram account. The six-time world champion admires the mentally strong Gasly. “He had such a challenging time when he was relegated by Red Bull. He’s only gotten stronger and now he’s beating the team that dropped him. I’m happy for you.”
At Sky, Hamilton also had nice words for his French rival. “I’ve seen what he had to go through after being sidelined by a top team. Now he’s beaten the top teams, it’s just great to see him fight back,” said the Brit.
Hamilton congratulates Gasly on Instagram
Firstly, I really want to acknowledge @pierregasly today for his amazing win. It is so well deserved. He had such a challenging time when RedBull demoted him and he’s gone from strength to strength to get this result today, beating the team that dropped him. Congrats bro, really happy for you.
For me, whilst I never like to lose I am grateful for the challenge, the lessons learnt from today. All we can do is continue to fight and never give up. To my guys, thank you all for continuing to push.
