GASLY SPEECHLESS AFTER FIRST VICTORY: IT WAS A CRAZY RACE

Pierre Gasly was speechless after his very first Formula 1 victory in the Italian Grand Prix. The Frenchman took full advantage of the chaos surrounding the code red, caused by a crash of Charles Leclerc.
“I can’t believe it”, says the Frenchman from AlphaTauri. “I don’t realise it yet. It really was a crazy race and we took full advantage of it. Our car was fast, but so was the one behind us”.
Gasly looks back on the past few months. For him, they were full of ups and downs with promotion and relegation at Red Bull Racing and his first podium in Brazil last year. This Sunday he can add his first GP victory to his list of achievements. “So much has happened in the last few months”, he recalls. “First the podium and now my first win”.
“I don’t have the words for it,” continues the 24-year-old driver. “This team has given me so much. From my debut to my first podium and now my first win”.
With his victory at Monza, Gasly is the first Frenchman to win a race since Olivier Panis went home with first place at the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix. “I always said that this had to change, but I didn’t expect it to happen to us”.
Gasly, who was released from his Red Bull seat last season and demoted to AlphaTauri, said afterwards: “Honestly, it’s unbelievable.
