F1 ITALIAN GP - LECLERC ACKNOWLEDGES HIS OWN MISTAKE

It looked a bad mistake, but so poor did the SF1000 look in wheel-to-wheel battle at Spa and at Monza that Leclerc can probably be forgiven for trying to establish as big a cushion as possible.

(F1 Italian GP) – Charles Leclerc’s Italian Grand Prix ended suddenly with a massive impact into the tyre wall. According to the Monegasque, it was his own fault.

With Sebastian Vettel’s retirement, it was already a disappointing race for Ferrari. However, things got worse. At the end of lap 26, Charles Leclerc lost control of his SF1000 at the Parabolica and was thrown hard into the tyre wall.

After a couple of long seconds, the Monegasque got up out of the car and was able to take a good look at the enormous damage.

“Physically, I feel pretty good now, I have a little headache, but I think it’s normal after such a hard blow,” Leclerc told the press, including Motorsport.com.

According to the Monegasque, his accident was not due to a problem with the car. “We didn’t have a technical problem, the crash was my fault, I lost control of the car. Until then the race was very difficult, I had a lot of problems with the first set of tyres and then there was the chaos with the Safety Car and a closed pit lane,” the driver continued.

“Unfortunately I also had a lot of headaches with the hard tyres. I tried to push, but in Parabolica, I lost control. That was my fault, I honestly don’t know if I asked too much of the car. Probably, since I ended up in the wall. But the car was very difficult to drive and I tried to do my best, despite the problems we had with the balance,” concluded Leclerc.
