VERSTAPPEN IS DISAPPOINTED IN THE POOR QUALIFYING SESSION AT THE ITALIAN GP

The Italian Grand Prix is also the first race weekend in which special engine modes are banned during qualifying. According to many, this would hurt Mercedes in particular, but at Monza there was little evidence of this. Verstappen therefore did not expect to see the impact of this now.
Verstappen qualifying Italian GP – Max Verstappen is disappointed in the poor qualifying session at the Italian Grand Prix.
The Dutchman only managed fifth position and fell behind both a McLaren and a Racing Point car. He calls the result ‘not good’, and emphasizes that they are not competing to fight with the midfield.
“It’s just not a good weekend for us”, Verstappen kicks off at Ziggo Sport. After the whole car has been overhauled in terms of balance, it still didn’t go well at Red Bull Racing. “We started this season with the assumption that we would fight with Mercedes, and now we are suddenly behind a McLaren and a Racing Point,” explains the Dutchman.
The RB16’s balance is still not good enough to compete with the dominant Merceds. “You notice that when you drive with less downforce, then that car is a lot more sensitive, and that just eats us up now,” says the Red Bull driver, who expects to fight for P3.
The Dutchman ultimately does not mind, because he knows that it is difficult to compete with competitor Mercedes. The German racing team proved their dominance once again with a very convincing qualifying session. Again they occupy the second row. “It doesn’t matter that much anymore”, says Verstappen disappointedly.
