BINOTTO ABOUT BELGIAN GP: “WE COULDN’T GET THE TIRES WORKING”

Mattia Binotto looks back on a difficult race for Ferrari. The Italian team was unable to score any points today. Ultimately, Charles Leclerc took the fourteenth position, while Sebastian Vettel crossed the line in thirteenth position.
BINOTTO ABOUT BELGIAN GP – Our problems are mainly related to this circuit”, Binotto tells Autosport.com “We have not had the opportunity to understand why the tires were not working”. This forced both Ferrari drivers to achieve quite a dramatic result in terms of speed in the race.
Binotto feels responsible for the bad result: “We lack strength and downforce. I am the first one to feel responsible for that. But I don’t think we can speak of a crisis. We already knew before the season that it would be very difficult. We will have to look at what the new rules do for us in Monza.”
“In the end we drove the same car as the previous races. So there must have been something that prevented us from performing as usual,” Binotto continues.”We also chose to use more downforce on the car, because we were thinking about a wet race. In doing so, we also partly sacrificed our qualification.”
The problems with the tires confused Ferrari’s engineers. The team says that finding the problem is the priority. For Laurent Mekies, sporting director of Ferrari, this probably causes some headache: “We will have to investigate where things went wrong this weekend. We have to discover the core of the problem so that we no longer suffer from it in the future.”
Mekies does think that they would still make the same choice with regard to the adjustment. “We would do it absolutely the same way. We just took a risk this weekend. We eventually learn from it as a team and it is now important that we stay positive and return with the right pace.”
