RAIKKONEN STILL BE RACING IN F1 IN 2021

Although Kimi admits that he hasn’t made a decision over his future yet, he reveals that his family would play a major role in determining whether he stays or leaves

Kimi Raikkonen has revealed he has yet to make a decision on whether he will continue in Formula 1 next year as he weighs up “the bigger picture” of family and home life.

Raikkonen is currently enduring an unhappy season with Alfa Romeo, with the Finn yet to score a point and the team struggling towards the rear of the grid.

With the 40-year-old out of contract at the end of the year, there is a possibility this season could be his last of his 18 in F1.

Asked pointedly whether he wanted to continue racing in the sport, Raikkonen replied: “I haven’t decided yet.”

As to whether it was about enjoyment, notably after gaining a better feeling with the car at the last race in Spain, Raikkonen added: “That depends, it might make a difference.

“You might drive a race in a good position and fighting for the points, but honestly, it’s not guaranteed where you go that it’s going to be good or bad.”

More poignantly, Raikkonen then said: “The bigger picture is much more important for me, first of all, the family. My kids are getting bigger. This year I’ve been able to be at home more, which has been great.

“But that’s what makes it, either I race or not. Obviously there’s going to be a point where I want to be at home and do other things, but I don’t know yet.”

With few seats now available in F1 for 2021, it is likely to be Alfa Romeo or nothing, to which he said: “I don’t know. First of all, I have to decide what I will do, and then I will see.

“Right now, that’s the first thing to decide. Until I decide what I do, those things are not on my list yet.”
