VERSTAPPEN POSSIBLY COMPETE WITH HAMILTON IN SPAIN

Winner of the 70th anniversary Grand Prix of F1, Max Verstappen hopes to continue his momentum this Sunday in Barcelona.

Winner of the first four races of the season, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were unable to face Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver won his first Grand Prix of the season and is now in second place in the drivers’ standings.

Lewis Hamilton was startled after the second Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Mercedes W11 had severe problems with his tyres, which the six-time world champion also expects to happen in Barcelona.

“That first stint on the mediums was very tough with Max Verstappen in my gearbox,” remembers Hamilton, according to Autohebdo. After the pit stop, Hamilton was put on a set of hard tyres: “During that second stint, I tried to save my tyres with all my might.”

But even Hamilton couldn’t escape the blisters on the British circuit: “I did my best, but those blisters kept appearing. In the end, my race was hanging by a thread. The tyres held up, but I was worried”.

The next Grand Prix is already coming up. Pirelli will bring other compounds than those used in Silverstone, but temperatures are high at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. “I expect another difficult race,” the current world champion predicts.

“We’ll probably have the same problems as at Silverstone. That’s going to be a serious challenge,” fears Hamilton. Red Bull Racing has been able to keep the Pirelli rubber better for longer, and Verstappen could, therefore, possibly compete with the Hamilton and Bottas in Spain.
