SEBASTIAN VETTEL HAS CRITICIZED FERRARI’S STRATEGY

Vettel said he was unhappy with the way Ferrari approached his strategy as he ended up finishing 12th on the road.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has blasted his team for deploying a strategy that “didn’t make any sense” for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
Vettel endured a torrid second weekend at Silverstone, spinning on lap one and languishing in the midfield after getting stuck in traffic following his first stop.
The traffic exaggerated the already-critical tyre wear and Vettel eventually finished 12th, one place back on his starting position.
The German was critical of the team for putting him back out in traffic on the team radio, and he explained to Sky Sports F1: “We spoke this morning that there is no point pitting, knowing that we will run into traffic.
“That is exactly what we did. We also went onto the hard tyre, which we then only had on for roughly 10 laps, not even that. It didn’t make any sense. Why would you put the hard for 10 laps and then the mediums for 20 laps?
“I was running out of tyres towards the end. We spoke about exactly that but I guess not the best work we all could have done today.”
Vettel acknowledged the difference between himself and team-mate Charles Leclerc – who finished fourth – has been the ability to get through a race clearly, although didn’t deny the notion there could be differences between the two cars.
He admitted: “I guess something is there that I am missing. I am not sure what it is.
“Nevertheless, I try to get out of that and do as best as I can. For sure today, I could have been higher up. My side, obviously, with the spin-out, I am not sure what happened there.
“Also, with strategy, we could have recovered better. The main difference is we don’t have clean races from where we start and he had a couple of clean races so far.”
