MERCEDES OFFERS HAMILTON ONE YEAR CONTRACT

Lewis Hamilton could be set for a pay-cut following the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The F1 world champion has not started talks over the new deal because he feels uncomfortable speaking about it when people are losing their jobs.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes do not seem to agree on a new contract, Italian Motorsport has reported.
As per sources, the team has probably offered the Briton a one-year deal, while Hamilton wants a longer commitment.
Mercedes is still uncertain about its future in Formula 1 and so has offered Hamilton a one-year contract. But there is an option to extend the commitment for several years automatically. The team is unwilling to sign the new Concorde Agreement yet until its demands are met. So its presence in Formula 1 is still uncertain. As a result, Hamilton is reportedly getting a one-year offer.
However, the Briton is not happy about it. He believes the act is a token of distrust for a man who has won them five championships and helped the brand. The six-time world champion is keen to remain active in the top class of motorsport for a few more years.
It wouldn’t be a money issue, Motorsport.com assured. Hamilton earns a hefty salary but is willing to give up because of the corona crisis and its economic consequences, which also impact Mercedes.
