HAMILTON I DON T WANT TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP LIKE THAT

The firepower of young guns Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc has set up a salivating prospect for the (very near) future of Formula 1: intense competition from two sharp minds at different teams, both in the running to dethrone Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. And defending champion Hamilton wants that competition to step up as soon as possible.

Despite their domination, there have been spectacular races this season –splitting opinion on which one has been the most exciting. But Hamilton wants more – the six-time champion is looking for a proper battle between himself, Verstappen and Leclerc.

Lewis Hamilton seems rather bored after his third victory of 2020. The British driver has a good chance of taking his seventh world title this year, but is disappointed in the way it is coming along.

“This is not how I imagined the fight for the championship to go”, Hamilton is quoted by Sky Sports. “This is not how I want to win the title, I would much rather have a very good fight with Max and Charles, that is what makes me happy. I’m a racer through and through, that’s what I get out of my bed for every morning.”

Hamilton hopes that after the radical rule changes of 2022, things will be different. “I think it would be great if everything would be closer together in the future”, admits the 35-year-old. “But it’s also not my fault that Mercedes has done incredibly well. The same rules apply to everyone, we just got the most out of them. It is not our fault that we make it less exciting”, Hamilton concludes.
