HULKENBERG: OF COURSE A DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME

Nico Hulkenberg would make his comeback in Formula 1 on Sunday afternoon, but it didn’t come to that for the German.
HULKENBERG DISAPPOINTMENT – He would replace Sergio Perez, but Racing Point’s car stopped before the lights went out. Reportedly the British race team had motor problems.
“We tried everything, but there was a problem with the engine,” says Hulkenberg to Sky Sports. “We don’t know exactly what the problem is yet, but we couldn’t start the car.”
So it hasn’t turned out to be the Sunday that Lance Stroll’s temporarily new team mate had hoped for: “Of course it’s a disappointment for me, and for the team. We’ll see how things go next weekend should it come to that for me”, he refers to the issue of when Perez, who tested positive for the coronavirus, will be able to return to the paddock.
The German driver on car number 27, was set to make his comeback in the F1 grid after having lost his seat at Renault for the 2020 season. Nico is still deemed by many as a great driver, as for example Verstappen put it: “He’s happy to be here and he should be here anyway because I think he still deserves his spot on the grid.”
After three satisfactory practice sessions, where he was getting up to speed, he managed to get through to Q2 and was set to start the race in 13th place. His qualifying performance leaves a question mark whether he will able to match his teammates pace, with a bit more training and more kilometres in the car. Racing Point’s Technical Director, Andrew Green, seems to be happy with his replacement driver’s performance: “He did slip into it incredibly seamlessly, it was like he’d never left, which is the reason why we wanted him in the car in the first place.”, he shared with Autosport.
Unfortunately for him, when the team was firing up the car, ahead of the race, there was no reaction from the “Pink Mercedes”. There was still hope for the German, as the mechanics were working very hard on the car and he was supposed to start from the pit lane. Ultimately, they were not able to get it started. We will have to wait for the next round at the 70th Anniversary GP, at the Silverstone Circuit, to see if Hülkenberg comes out in pink again
