F1 BRITISH GP 2020 MIXED FEELINGS FOR VERSTAPPEN

Verstappen spent most of the race in a lonely third behind a commanding Mercedes 1-2, but gained second when Valtteri Bottas suffered a puncture three laps from the end.

The British GP proved to be an exciting race at the Silverstone circuit. Hamilton clinched the 87th win of his career and became the driver who got the most wins at this circuit. Max Verstappen managed to get P2 after Bottas had a puncture.

With one lap to the finish line, Lewis Hamilton, who was leading the race from start to finish, had a puncture on his front left tyre. Max Verstappen pushed very hard on his Red Bull Racing car to close the gap to the lead, but did not manage to close the gap to the Brit.

Two laps earlier, Valtteri Bottas, had a puncture himself which saw Verstappen being promoted to P2. “It’s lucky and unlucky”, he said. The Red Bull Racing team thought that Verstappen would not be able to catch Hamilton, so they made him pit for soft tyres in order for him to try and get the fastest lap. “The tyres didn’t look great with 10 laps to go and I was already on the radio. Then Valtteri got a puncture so I came on the radio and said I’m going to back it out. Then of course they boxed me to go for the fastest lap”, he shared with SkySports F1.

Red Bull’s strategy proved to be costly for him, because if he had not pitted, he would probably be close enough to overtake Hamilton’s punctured car. “Then unfortunately Lewis got a puncture himself. But I’m very happy with second, it’s a very good result for us”, which shows that despite not getting P1, the Dutchman is still happy with the result.
