PANIC IN F1 PADDOCK PEREZ IN ISOLATION FIRST CORONA TEST SUSPICIOUS

Sergio Pérez is in isolation at Silverstone in Great Britain. A routine corona test showed irregular values, so the driver is now undergoing a second test to see if he is infected.

Pérez currently sits sixth in the 2020 F1 drivers’ championship, in what is his 10th season in F1.

Racing Point announced the test result ahead of the 30-year-old Mexican’s planned media appearance at Silverstone on Thursday, which has now been cancelled.

Perez will now need to take another test, and will need to test negative to be admitted to the British GP paddock.

When contacted by The Race, Racing Point would not comment on which driver it has on standby in case Perez is unable to race this weekend.

However, it is known the team has access to Mercedes reserves Esteban Gutierrez and Stoffel Vandoorne.

F1 : CHECO PEREZ WARNS COMPETITION

F1 has carried out over 15,000 COVID-19 tests between the start of the delayed 2020 season and now, and announced back on July 17 that two people had tested positive.

While F1 didn’t officially disclose who the affected individuals were, it was understood neither belonged to team personnel or operated in frontline paddock roles.

If Perez tests positive, any F1 personnel he has been in close contact with must immediately report to the paddock’s quarantine facility for a test of their own.
