ADRIAN NEWEY : HIS CARS ARE TOUGH TO DRIVE

Adrian Newey has been designing cars since 1983. Even with his apparent step back from day to day design work in Formula 1 most Formula 1 teams still dream of hiring him, indeed for most of them it seems inconceivable that you would even think about firing him but but during Newey’s long and fascinating career he has been, expelled, asked to leave and outright fired.

Adrian Newey designs his cars so much on the edge that they are tough to drive. Alexander Albon might be having problems due to these issues. Having a driver with experience at Red Bull Racing would be a better choice for the team, Jacques Villeneuve argues at Sky Sports Italia.

“They are really not easy cars to drive. Newey always designs his cars to be on the edge. You can see it this season when you look at the difference between Max Verstappen and Albon,” Villeneuve added. The world champion thinks it is logical that Albon has a bit more trouble with the Red Bull car than his teammate.

The former F1 driver sees a big difference in performance between the Dutchman and Albon. The Thai-Brit is a bit slower than his teammate. Red Bull would do well to bring an old acquaintance back to the team: Sebastian Vettel.

“In the past, Vettel showed that he could handle Newey’s cars. This makes him an ideal teammate next to Verstappen,” Villeneuve thinks. “From then on, you will have both drivers who can drive on the limit.”
