BINOTTO : TO BE LAPPED IS VERY PAINFUL

Ferrari experienced another disappointment on Sunday at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the third round of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Ferrari had a slightly better race speed-wise than the races in Austria, but a return to the podium isn’t there yet. Sebastian Vettel got a good sixth place but teammate Charles Leclerc didn’t recover after a strategic mistake: he finished eleventh.

AMuS is angry: ‘Both cars have been put on a lap. The shame could not have been greater for Ferrari. The cars weren’t as fast as hoped in the race’. The medium is irritated about the strategic mistakes.

Ferrari was alert enough to bring Leclerc in at the right moment. However, the team did send the driver from Monaco on his way with soft tires. On a slippery, dry track, that’s asking for trouble. They could have known this. The soft tire was the worst of the three types of dry-weather tires. After just a few laps the tires were curled up.

In doing so, Leclerc lost oceans of time. Vettel was able to prevent such a drama by being critical of the team himself. “Softs? You mean mediums, I guess?” The team did bring him in a lap late, according to the medium.

Ferrari also held the German for a long time because of too many cars in the pit lane. As a result, he fell back from fourth to eighth place. With these problems and the lack of speed, the podium is out of the question. Fifth or sixth place is our new normal’, the German admits after the race.
