HAMILTON HOPING FOR DRY RACE IF HE’S TO BE COMPETITIVE

Lewis Hamilton is hoping that the rain clouds will hold off on Sunday if he’s to enjoy a fairly competitive race in Hungary.

The Mercedes driver is often touted as one of the quickest in the rain, but he says his difficulties setting-up the W11 perfectly has led to him “struggling” in the wet.

According to Lewis Hamilton, we should not attach too much value to Friday’s training results. In the first practice, both Mercedes topped the timesheets. But the Brit did not even drive in the second free practice.

“We’ve done everything we need to do,” Hamilton said in front of Sky Sports cameras. “Too bad it’s raining today. It is strange to have rain twice in a row in the summer. This was all we could do during this session,” the reigning world champion said, explaining his absence from the track.

Mercedes was supreme in the dry first practice and at least half a second faster than the next non-Mercedes. However, he asked not to read too much into that dominance. “Don’t look at the times,” he said. “Everyone finishes their own program. In any case, we have finished our program, and I think it will be closer together during the race.”

Hamilton, a gifted rain driver, hopes it will stay dry on Saturday and Sunday. This is mainly due to the characteristics of the curvy Hungaroring. “I want a dry race and a dry qualifying. When dry, this track is fun to ride, but in the rain, it is very difficult.”
