RICCIARDO PUT EXTRA PRESSURE ON RENAULT

Abiteboul didn’t blame Ricciardo for anything, but said the West Australian put extra pressure on Renault.

”It’s the first time we’ve raced wheel to wheel with each other and if it’s there, of course I’ll go for the hole. I wouldn’t do anything crazy though, because so early in the race I realised we were both on a different strategy”, says Daniel Ricciardo after the race about the duel with his teammate Ocon.

Ricciardo therefore asked if his team would let him lead, but was not heard. “If I couldn’t catch up with him I wouldn’t have asked, but I would have been a little surprised if they hadn’t let me in the end,” says Ricciardo, who soon saw his teammate drop out of the race due to a problem with the car.

”I didn’t want to lose too much time so early in the race, but fortunately I was able to place the attack quickly. If that hadn’t been possible I would have expected the team to intervene. It has been discussed by the team, because everyone could see that we were losing time”, concluded the Australian who finished in eighth place.
