NORRIS DELIVERS A BIG RESULT FOR MCLAREN

Lando Norris gave McLaren his best qualifying result in 6 seasons by taking 4th place on the grid of the Austrian GP.
Lando Norris is over the moon with his best ever qualifying in Formula 1. But a strong Saturday does not guarantee a great race on Sunday, the McLaren driver realizes. It is especially true if the drivers right behind you have a fast car.
In a conversation with Sky Sports F1, the British driver looks back on his qualification. “We sincerely did not expect to be faster than Racing Point, they caught us on Friday. We are very happy with this result, although we take into account that Racing Point is better in the race.”
“But it will be very interesting in the race,” the twenty-year-old continues. “Ferrari has a very good race space, they are a danger to McLaren. But Racing Point also has a good car. It looks like they can handle the tires better than we do, so it’s going to be hard to keep them behind us.”
Norris had not seen his strong result coming. “We had expectations of where we would be, but because of the speed of the Racing Point cars, we never thought we could fight them, let alone beat them. However, the car went on board like a rocket with little fuel.”
The McLaren driver is happy that the Formula 1 circus will remain in Austria for a while. “We noticed last year that our car is going fast here and that turned out to be the case again. It is very promising that we race here for two weekends. Hopefully, we can take advantage of that.”
