ABITEBOUL: RICCIARDO’S ARRIVAL AT RENAULT BROUGHT ALONG BAD VIBES

A year and a half ago, Daniel Ricciardo chose to depart from Red Bull and signed with Renault. According to Cyril Abiteboul, this brought about a change of environment within the team, admits the honest boss of the team.
Abiteboul: Ricciardo’s arrival at Renault brought along bad vibes. Abiteboul looks back on the 2019 season, with Ricciardo alongside Nico Hulkenberg. “Many have linked Daniel’s choice to a negative dynamic,”explained the boss of the Renault team. “This is true in the sense that Ricciardo came from a completely different team (Red Bull). With us, the level was not as good and maybe he had higher expectations. This led to a hint of team frustration when we saw that we couldn’t reach their level. “
Ocon will bring a new atmosphere to Renault
This new season, Ricciardo will have a new teammate, namely Esteban Ocon. The promising talent has not been in Formula 1 for a year. So according to Abiteboul, his arrival is accompanied by a sense of freshness and novelty. “It will be different with Esteban; he is still in a constructive phase. This brings us much positivity, because we can contribute to his evolution. Which is not the case with Daniel. “
