ABITEBOUL: OUR EFFORTS SHOULDN’T BE UNDERESTIMATED IN 2020

A striking argument from Cyril Abiteboul, team leader at Renault, this Saturday. The Frenchman already seems to be taking precautions with for the 2020 season and the following one in 2021.

Abiteboul: Our efforts shouldn’t be underestimated in 2020. Previously, Renault has repeatedly stated that the regulation changes for 2021 are considered the opportunity to close the gap with the peak of Formula 1. The improvement of cars before 2021 began. On the other hand, the year 2020 cannot just be canceled.

“Everyone on the grid is facing this challenge, I don’t think there is any team as advanced as we are on 2021. All our strategies are based on this renewal season.” Explains Abiteboul during a conversation with Motorsport. On the matter, Renault is presenting its new car on February 12 in Paris.

“The new regulations are extremely in our favor. Which explains our enthusiasm and why we are so focused on it. But 2021 should not be an excuse for having a poor season in 2020. i am expecting a better season, and that we are able to deliver on the changes and improvements that we’ve made this year.” For this future season, we will use all the changes brought in 2019, as a positive impact, not only for 2021 but also for 2020. And I would to perceive it this way.”
