Scuderia Ferrari tried to solve the problems of the SF90 when developing the 2020 single-seater, but the Maranello team does not start the season as favorite.
Ferrari’s new simulator for spring, 2020. The Italian side’s team principal Mattia Binotto admitted that some parts are missing to have a perfect puzzle, like for example the “spider” will only be replaced once the season has started.
“To open a winning cycle and to be in front of Mercedes in a stable way, it will still take a few years, to be honest. But I know that as Ferrari we always have a moral obligation to try every year. So we start with the goal of doing very well in 2020, we don’t start to finish second. However, if one wants to say that he reaches that team maturity, that know-how, that sufficient and necessary running-in on all aspects to be dominant, it is fair to say that this does not happen in two days.” – Mattia Binotto said a few weeks ago.
The Scuderia with the 671 project tries to fix the problems that characterized the SF90 in an attempt to challenge the silver arrows: the lack of downforce and the inability to exploit the tires, difficult to maintain in the right temperature window, which made Ferrari’s car uncompetitive on some tracks and very fast on others.

THE SIMULATION AREA OF MARANELLO IS CERTAINLY PERFECTIBLE
And as Motorsport Italy has previously underlined, in the Sports Management they have worked hard to find the right balance, in order to make the car one of the Mercedes challengers in all races. But why are there these doubts? Trying to put the winter puzzle together, one would say that not all the mosaic parts are still in the right place. For example: the simulation area of Maranello is certainly perfectible.

The machine we saw on the track in the free practice on Friday on several occasions was far from the hoped-for set-up and only with plenty of hard work by checking the track data (and checking at night at home) was the ideal setup identified, but after losing a day of development.

The 671 project is developed in the “Spider”, the simulator which will soon be discontinued to make way for one of the latest generation. According to rumors, the new model will be ready in spring, so it will take some time for it to be perfectly functional, with adequate data compliance between the track and simulator. The 2021 single-seater will therefore be finalized with the most modern simulator, while the 2020 one at least in the early stages will pay a little delay for the use of a solution that is now a bit outdated despite the constant updates to which it has always been subjected.
