Andy Cowell : Honda’s improvement during the 2019

Honda had a difficult time as an engine supplier upon their return, experiencing an unsuccessful partnership with McLaren before switching to Toro Rosso. However, this move led to significant improvements for the Japanese brand. It wasn’t until the winter of 2018 that Honda’s development rate surged ahead of their debut season with Red Bull. This allowed them to surpass Renault and catch up with leading engine suppliers Mercedes and Ferrari.
In 2019, Red Bull claimed three victories and eight podium finishes, including two with Toro Rosso, marking Honda’s best season since their return in 2015. According to Cowell, the rate at which Honda has improved is superior to Ferrari, who also made significant engine gains in that year.
Cowell anticipates an exciting 2020 season, as the stable regulations will allow teams and engine suppliers to converge in terms of performance. Red Bull has the potential to create championship-winning cars, while Max Verstappen’s driving skills are formidable. Additionally, Honda’s massive investment and determination in what they’re doing are evident on the track, with sound decision-making and a solid structure in place. Overall, the future looks bright and exciting for the Honda-Red Bull partnership.
According to Cowell, Red Bull has the capability to produce cars that can win championships, and Max Verstappen is an exceptional driver. Moreover, Honda’s dedication to their work is enormous, as evidenced by their significant investment and strong determination.
Cowell remarked that the results of Honda’s hard work are evident on the track, with a solid structure and wise decision-making in place. He also expressed his excitement for what’s to come, implying that there are promising prospects ahead for the Honda-Red Bull partnership.
